Work to overhaul the second floor of the Prince Rupert Friendship House has wrapped up, improving safety, security, and accessibility for employees and clients.
It’s the most recent step in a multi-stage modernization effort for the 60 year-old facility, undertaken in partnership with the Prince Rupert Port Authority.
In 2019, the pair worked together to bring a new community kitchen, as well as a lobby renovation on the first floor in 2021.
This newest phase saw them upgrade the second floor’s Culture Room, staff kitchen, computer lab, and child-care areas.
New electrical infrastructure, lighting, windows, drywall, and flooring were installed throughout, as well as a digital screen displaying notices and schedules in the hallway.
In total, this phase’s upgrades cost $254,000, with the PRPA’s Community Investment Fund providing $127,000.
