A scare over potential bears in the area prompted RCMP in Houston to briefly put two schools under hold-and-secure orders this afternoon.
Both Houston Secondary, and Twain Sullivan School were put under the order out of precaution, after bear bangers were heard in the area.
Bear bangers are used by community members to scare off bears, and combined with recent sightings, were enough for police to enact the order while they investigated.
But, no bears were located in the vicinity of the school, and police lifted the order within 20 minutes.
Despite the mistakeable sound, police say they are confident the sound was caused by the bear bangers, and not by a firearm.
