MLA and NDP leadership hopeful David Eby was in Prince Rupert yesterday to close off his Northwest campaign tour leg which began in Smithers.
While in the city, he toured the nearly-completed Crane’s Crossing Supportive Housing project at site of the former Raffles Inn on 3rd Avenue.
That development aims to bring 46 new long-term, bachelor-style, housing units to the city, and is set to be completed by the year’s end.
Eby was joined by North Coast MLA Jenn Rice, who brought up the difficulties the city has had in getting provincial support for supportive housing.
Rice told Eby that, even with the new units, the city will still fall well short of what is needed to accommodate the unhoused population.
