A couple of major trends were highlighted in the recently released annual BC Check-Up: Work report, conducted by the Chartered Professional Accountants of British Columbia.
The first major one is that Northwest BC’s unemployment rate in August was at 3.8 percent, compared to 4.8 percent in August 2021 and that total employment in the region in September was at 38,200, a 5.5 per cent increase compared to September 2021.
However, the data also went onto mention that the region’s economy has not completely recovered yet.
The other major talking point is that Northwest BC’s labour participation rate, or working-aged individuals actively seeking a job or already having a job, was at 64.6 per cent in September, down 4.1 percent from that same month in 2019.
In total, about 2,500 residents have taken their leave from the region’s labour force in that period of time.
