Preliminary data has scientists believing that two earthquakes near Fort St John over the past few says were caused by fracking.
Each of the quakes occurred within 1 km of each other, roughly 130 kms northwest of the City, on November 11th and 15th.
Measuring at a 4.6 and 4.7, the two quakes would be among the largest fracking-caused earthquakes in Canada’s history.
Despite this, no damage was reported as a result, and the quakes were only lightly felt in the surrounding area.
According to the BC Oil and Gas Commission, operations were immediately suspended following the first quake, before resuming later.
More information must still be released in order to determine for certain whether or not the earthquakes were caused by fracking.
