New BC Premier David Eby wasted no time getting to work, introducing a new pair of cost-of-living credits just moments after being sworn in.
One such measure will see all BC Hydro customers receive a one-time $100 electricity credit, including those who get electricity from FortisBC.
That credit jumps to an average of $500 for commercial rate payers, including small and medium business owners, based on last year’s consumption.
Eby also announced a new BC Affordability Credit for eligible individuals and families, which will scale based on income.
Individuals earning less than $36,901 will receive the full credit of $164, with reduced payments for those earning up to $79,376, at which point it phases out.
A family of four earning less than $43,051 will earn the maximum $410 credit, with a similar scaling rebate up to the max income of $150,051.
Eby announced the new measures after being sworn in as BC’s 37th Premier at the Musqueam Community Centre this morning.
