For the first time in the province’s history, BC will have a dedicated Minister of Housing, when its new cabinet is announced in two weeks.
New Premier David Eby announced today that he would be creating a stand-alone housing ministry in light of the on-going availability crisis.
Traditionally, the housing portfolio in BC is shared with another, larger ministry, and currently falls under the purview of the Attorney General.
It’s a position Eby knows all to well, with the portfolio being added to his own in 2020, in the middle of his time as Attorney General.
Currently, both positions are held by Murray Rankin, who also serves as Minister of Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation.
Eby will announce who will take on the newly created ministry when his cabinet is sworn in on December 7th.
