The leader of the Green Party in BC is wanting to see mandatory masking in public places brought back in order to protect children.
Leader Sonia Furstenau made the call after a significant increase in pediatric hospital wait times and school absences due to respiratory illnesses among students.
Furstenau pointed out that masking in schools has become one of the hottest issues surrounding the COVID pandemic.
School boards turned to the provincial ministry of health for advice and guidance, but the ministry left it to the boards to decide their own fate, and now, parents are reportedly even more concerned due to the flu and RSV infections.
It was also noted that after two and a half years, parents are now facing the terrifying prospect of not being able to access medicines for their sick kids.
Federal officials have said a million bottles of the medications are expected to arrive in Canada this week, but pharmacists say a million bottles is a drop in the bucket when compared to the need and demand.
