Nominations are now open for the 2022 BC reconciliation awards.
The nomination period began last Tuesday with the installation of two canoe paddles by Lieutenant Governor Janet Austin at Government House.
The awards exist thanks to a partnership between the lieutenant governor and the BC achievement foundation and the awards recognize individuals, groups and organizations that have demonstrated exceptional leadership, integrity, respect and commitment to furthering reconciliation.
This is the third year the awards are being presented and Austin said she is deeply honoured to display the paddles as a symbol of the ongoing commitment to reconciliation.
Former Lieutenant Governor Steven Point was the one who founded the awards and his hand carved red cedar canoe on display in the parliament building in Victoria, was created as a symbol of reconciliation that says we are all in the same canoe and we must paddle together to move forward.
The nomination period is open until January 20th and access to forms can be found here.
