A new site for a permanent Francophone school in Smithers has been secured, thanks to more than $2 million in fresh provincial funding.
Currently, classes for French-speaking K-7 students in Smithers are offered at école La Grande-ourse on Fulton Avenue.
But, with the lease on that site set to expire, prompting the French-Language School Board to seek out a new, permanent location for the school.
With the new funding, the board was able to secure a site at the corner of Vancouver Street and 3rd Avenue.
Officials from the Ministry of Education will now work with the school to acquire adequate modular classrooms, while they work on construction plans for the new school.
