The BC Wildfire Service isn’t taking any chances following the worst Wildfire season in the province’s history.
The service has issued a bulletin warning residents in the Cariboo that category 3 fires will be prohibited this season.
The restrictions cover the Cariboo-Chilcotin, 100 Mile House, and Quesnel resource regions.
Category 3 open fires include: flames larger than two meters high by 3 meters wide, any number of burning windrows, and burning stubble or grass over an area larger than 0.2 hectares.
Penalties for violating the restriction range from 11 hundred and fifty dollars to 100 thousand dollars and jail time.
The restrictions will be in effect from April 23rd through September 29th.
