Book Lovers’ Night Out is a different kind of book club because drop-ins are always welcome. Join us for lively, low-cost monthly gatherings built around a love of books, discussion and companionship. We will be discussing The Dutch House by Ann Patchett, as well as planning our titles for the year. Meetings are every 2nd Wednesday of the month at the Smithers Public Library. The Prince George Public Library presents the return of their beloved Homework Help tutoring program.  Tutors work with small groups of students in grades 3-12 to build skills in English, Math and Sciences. Students will be paired with an experienced tutor and university student for their weekly session.   Free, one-hour tutoring sessions will be held Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays and are booked on a first come, first served basis with sessions starting on December 5th.    Sessions will be offered in-person at both the Bob Harkins Branch, downtown, and the Nechako  Branch, in the Hart, as well as online.   Submit a registration request for a tutoring session online  at www.pgpl.ca/homework-help or call 250-563-9251 ext. 100.    Offering no barrier learning support to community youth through the Homework Help program  supports PGPL’s vision of fostering a vibrant, inclusive, thriving community, and its mission to  build community resilience by creating welcoming and inclusive spaces for every person to  read, connect, and share.

Strengthening Families Together offers education and support to family members, friends and caregivers of a loved one with a mental illness. This 6-week program meets once a week for approximately 2.5 hours, during which families, caregivers and friends learn more about mental illness and the mental health system. They are given an opportunity to develop and practice healthy coping strategies for dealing with some of the difficulties they may be facing. Families will also learn: * effective communication skills to help handle new challenges * how to deal with stigma * how to resist messages of self-blame Refreshments will be provided and there is an optional celebration dinner after completion of program.
