Coastal GasLink has gotten yet another fine from the Environmental Assessment Office for not compiling with both conditions and orders that have to do with erosion and sediment control required by their environmental assessment order.
This fine of $170,100 was given out after EAO inspected their pipeline project and found that erosion issues are persisting.
CGL was initially fined $72,500 back in February for similar problems.
CGL’s current environmental assessment certificate says that they need to implement measures in order to protect delicate wetlands and waterways from erosion caused sediment which has negative repercussions on fish habitats and water quality.
EAO has continually inspected the pipeline in multiple places between October of last year and April of this year and they keep finding these sediment issues.
As a result, the fines will continue to escalate until they get fixed.
